Ten wrestlers with significant varsity experience return, and a host of newcomers will look to contribute, to a Central team with strong numbers.
Seniors Jalen Ramos and Chris Phillips, along with junior JD Porter provide leadership in the lowerweights as the Eagles will be breaking in several new faces into the 106 & 113 pound weight classes, while a the senior foursome of Buhagiar, Kroon, Palmieri, and Valentino provide a strong veteran presence in the middleweights and give Coach Bischoff room for maneuvering.
The upperweights will be comprised mostly of first year starters, but junior Jeff Paton, who registered 18 wins last season, does give Central a strong presence up here.
The schedule is very tough in the first month of the season with the Eagles competing in the Neptune Classic and Hawk Classic, as well as taking on Shore powers TR South, Howell, and Brick Twp. The tough competition early on should benefit the newcomers and hopefully have the Eagles peaking in the 2nd half as they look to return to the SCT and State Sectionals, as well as have a strong run in the post-season.
Wrestler To Watch - (Sr) Jalen Ramos
Ramos, a 3-time Region qualifier, picked up his first District championship and his first R6 medal (4th) in 2011 at 119 pounds. He's showed great improvement each season, and should be primed for a run at wrestling in Atlantic City in March where he could very well be in the hunt for a spot on the medal stand.
