2020 Season Preview

Head Coach: Owen Brennan (3rd Season / Record: 22-30)

2019 Overall Record:  17-13  /  Shore Conference:  13-10  /  A-South:  3-4
Sectionals: SJG4 Quarterfinalists
7th Place District 25
5th Place A-South
21st Place Shore Conference Tournament

Down Low (106-132): The young group from last season is now a year older, and along with senior Tyler Pepe, and some promising youngsters in the room behind them, gives the Eagles a deep and strong group. Pepe is the big name here. He enters the season with 90 career wins, is a 2-time SCT medal winner, and a 2-time State Qualifier. He will provide the veteran leadership for this group. Chris Siller, Nick Campanella, and Jack Condello all started as freshmen last season, and with a year of experience under their belts, should all be primed to take the next step forward in 2020. There are some good young numbers in the room, including freshman Jake Latowski, that give the Eagles some options to move things around when needed.

In The Middle (138-160): Some good experience returns in the middle as well. Junior Nick Sura had 20-wins last season, but a late injury forced him to miss the post-season. Now healthy, he should be in line for a big season. Stephen McGauley, a senior, joined the lineup late in the season last year, and put up a 6-1 record in the process, and 10-4 overall. He's another to keep an eye on for a big year. More experience is back with Dominick Fraulo, who is coming off a 14-win freshman year, and junior Connor Shea. The lineup also receives a boost with the return of senior Joe Zaccaro, a District medal winner in 2018, who missed last season with an injury.

Up Top (170-Hwt): Three more starters are back in the upperweights, as well in senior Mike Monetti, a 16-bout winner last year, and juniors Kyle Flynn and Vincent Dallicardillo. Keep an eye on senior heavyweight Hunter Barber, he has experience, and has worked really hard in the wight room to get to 285. He could be a big surprise for the Eagles up top. Central also has promising freshman Cosmo Zaccaro up here, who was a Tri-County champ at the intermediate school level.

This appears to be one of the most experienced, talented, and deepest lineups the Eagles have had in quite some time. They have not really had the depth and experience over the years to make lineup moves or overcome injuries, but that looks to be changing. They have been on the rise since head coach Owen Brennan took over, going from 5 wins in 2018, to 17 wins in 2019. They know the realities of being in A-South and taking on the powers there, but they are up for a challenge and are not to be taken lightly. This is a team that is going to be battle-tested and is only going to get better as the season rolls along. A definite team to keep a watch on.
